You can use lilo. In fact, you probably already have a file called /etc/lilo.conf.anaconda. Just change/copy that to /etc/lilo.conf, editing if you feel that would be helpful, and run lilo.

Hey, this is Linux. You can do anything you want. Of course, you're also responsible for the consequences--so beware.

You may wish to check the default config files Fedora provides under /usr/src/linux-{version}/configs.

The reason to use rpm is to have a package manager handle dependencies, etc.

But, as I said, this is Linux. You can change and fiddle all you want.
