Hi their. Sorry for the off-topic message, but since Mac OSX is based on Unix, I figured that maybe some of you guys would be interested in at least some of the developments. Speaking of which, has any of you played with this new spoken interface? Because it would be interesting to see just what actually is accessible in the GUI, as well as the system shell. i.e. perhaps run Lynx or possibly Gnome under OSX? -- Erik Heil <eheil at va3duk.serveftp.com> Phone: (865) 673-0542 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 24 Jul 2004 14:25:04 +1000 From: Steve Pattison <srp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Reply-To: NFBnet GUI Talk Mailing List <gui-talk at nfbnet.org> To: GUI-TALK <gui-talk at nfbnet.org> Subject: [gui-talk] Fwd: mac spoken interface *********** BEGIN FORWARDED MESSAGE *********** On 22/07/2004 at 8:51 AM Ian Blackburn <iblackburn at gesb.wa.gov.au> wrote: good morning list info below about apple spoken interface Thank you for participating in the spoken interface preview program. There have been a few exciting developments regarding the spoken interface that we'd like to share with you, and a few reminders. First, great work on the feedback! We've received great comments and suggestions from our previewers and based on their number and quality, we know there's as much excitement outside the company about this new technology as there is inside! Thank you for taking time to work with the spoken interface and for sending your feedback. Your comments are extremely valuable and Apple is working hard to deliver as many of your feature requests as possible in our final release. Please keep up the good work! Speaking of feedback, a number of previewers have requested that Apple give the spoken interface a name. Indeed, at its recent worldwide developer conference, Apple did just that. So, going forward, the spoken interface will be now be "VoiceOver" when it appears in Mac OS X Tiger (due to ship in the first half of next year). You can read more about VoiceOver, and Tiger, by visiting Apple's web site at http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/voiceover.html. Also based on previewer feedback, Apple is renaming the "ViewFinder". Going forward you'll hear this feature referred to as "the VoiceOver cursor". We've also heard many requests for documentation to get acquainted with Mac OS X basics in addition to the documentation provided for VoiceOver. You can now find this documentation, and other late breaking news, by visiting the preview web page at http://www.apple.com/accessibility/spokeninterface/preview/ Now for a reminder. The preview software you are using is tightly knit into the fabric of Mac OS X and relies on a wide variety of features and technologies in the operating system to function correctly. Therefore, Apple highly recommends that you do NOT install any Mac OS X Software or security updates on the same system running the spoken interface preview software. These updates are not intended for those running the spoken interface preview. To prevent updates from appearing or being automatically installed, turn off the "Check for updates" and "Download important updates in the background" in the Software Updates panel in System Preferences. Also in System Preferences, turn off "Check for updates automatically" in the Update tab of the QuickTime panel. Thank you again for participating in this preview program. We look forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, The Tiger VoiceOver team *********** END FORWARDED MESSAGE *********** Regards Steve, mailto:srp at bigpond.net.au Skype: steve1963 MSN Messenger: internetuser383 at hotmail.com _______________________________________________ gui-talk mailing list gui-talk at nfbnet.org http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/gui-talk
