O duh was that the problem? Yes sbm.bin is a file on the debian sarge iso from the speakup ftp website. It worked great for booting my system which couldn't boot from cd thanks to the bios. Once I did that, I couldn't tell how to give the necessary boot peramater so I had to make someone else install the base system and add the perameter later.
