vipul's razor might be something worth looking into. Those using it have access to a distributed data base of already known spam. New stuff users can report. The concept is you use vipul's razor to update your own spam filtering and when their filter fails you forward the spam using the software that got through for inclusion in the data base. Lots more eyes and hands doing the work takes individual effort to a new level.
