cable modem update

Good deal. I didn't think you would have much trouble. Since we have
dynamic IP's here, I did like you have done already, run dhcpcd and
vala, I got an IP from them. It was slick. The only hitch I ran into
when the tech was here was the original cable I tried to use between
the computers NIC and the modem wouldn't give him a signal on the
modem. We finally decided to try the cable that came with the cable
modem and that came right up; the other came from a broadband router
from Sprint and perhaps it was a cross-over cable And I didn't know
that then.

If by any chance you want to serve any outside users, you will need to
use a service like dyndns.org and they have some linux compatible
clients that automatically update your IP address to their
nameservers. Dyndns is free. If you register a domain elseware
and just want to have dyndns update for you, there is a nominal anual
charge to have that extra service.
