Hi, Toshiba, and, I believe Twinhead machines, will let you press the C key at the beginning of the boot sequence. The easiest thing to do is to hold down the C key until the system beeps. then enter the text speakup_synth=<synth> command as usual. Red Hat 9 is the last release under the Red Hat Linux name, but the current version is called Fedora Core 1. You can, and should, download it at: ftp://linux-speakup.org/pub/speakup/disks/fedora/1/ HTH. -- Bill in Denver On Thu, 26 Feb 2004, Stephen Clower wrote: > Hi folks, > I am taking the big plunge and am working on getting the latest version of RedHat installed on my laptop. I have downloaded the three Shrike iso images and have burned each image to a CDR. When I boot up my laptop with CD 1 in the CD-ROM drive, the CD spins up, but as far as I can ascertain the Linux boot screen does not appear. Instead, my computer boots right up into Windows. My guess is that the BIOS needs to be set, but I'm not entirely certain if this is the case. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate them. > My apologies if this has been brought up on this list before.
