I have ALSA 1.0.3 installed on my Slackware 9.1 box and all sounds
great. At least Zinf, Ogg123, Aplay, etc work fine. But when I
attempt to play an mp3 file with mpg321 program, I get a bunch of
distortion as if the volume was turned up too high or something. The
volume isn't actually any louder but it just sounds very heavily over
driven and obviously unacceptable. I think others on the list have
also encountered this. I used the mpg321 binary supplied with Slack.
I suppose I could replace it with something compiled from the original
source perhaps? Anyone else have this problem and figure out a fix?

Thanks for any possible help.
