Stay with exim it is a lot nicer package to configure and maintain than sendmail. Mailman works just fine with exim or any other mail transfer agent for that matter. When you set up a mailing list with mailman it gives you an output which you can just paste into your /etc/aliases file to support the new list. Some versions of mailman will even append the output automagically to aliases for you.
