HHHMMM: It sounds like you are depending on a dhcp server to assign the ip address of the computer that you are wanting to install RH9 on. If this is the case, you better have access to a dhcp server either running on your local network, or else through your isp. If it is local, then the ping thing is not necessary. All you need to do is read the last entry or 2 in the message file: tail /var/log/messages to get the assign ip address. Just what I know from experience.
