Hi there. Did you rebuild and re-install Alsa after you rebuilt your kernel? Or was this just a rebuilding of your already existing 2.4.21? I've had a similar problem, except I never got the message about device busy from lspci. Might want to try rebuilding Alsa and see what happens. Note that if your kerneldir isn't /usr/src/linux, or if you don't have a symlink called linux in /usr/src pointing to the location of your kernel, the Alsa configure script won't find it.
