speakup and emacspeak

Try running emacspeak with eflite. Then you can emacs in one console and
speakup in another at the same time.  Emacspeak also supports fonix, a
software dectalk express (available for $50).  
End result is that speakup never vanishes to the point of being able to use
the com port for something else.
