I think w3m will need to be recompiled, but check configure for command line options before you do since I think it's two of them that enable java and ssl support if you want them. Also, look on disk 4 and you'll find both libsafe and the /contrib/java directory. If you have a boxed set of slackware 8.0.0 from slackware, you have the java stuff on disk. The libsafe package was a painless install, there's like one environment variable to be set once installed then a reboot to get the system updated.
