Please see answers below your response. What synth are you using? Also are you using I amusing a DoubleTalk Lt. lilo or Grub as your boot loader? I am using Lilo as the boot loader. If you are using lilo the shift key will stop the boot process entirely. You then get a lilo prompt or a "boot." Also are you using the stock kernel 2.2.19pre21-idepci or a newer kernel? I am using the kernel that actually is on the Speakup site in the 2.2r2 Debian iso. I am not sure what kernel it is.
