You cannot ignore the miscdev.h patch rejection unless you don't want a working system. If you think you will want a cvs version of speakup with 2.4.18 I suggest you keep a copy of your miscdev.h file from before we changed cvs. It's unfortunate that a fix to one version breaks another version but I guess that's life in the fast lane. Absolutely don't try speakup against kernels 2.5.29 or above or you'll really be disappointed. It may take me months to fix those changes. They've totally changed the console code so nothing is the same as it was.
