All you have to do is copy the speakup.i kernel over the existing kernel, and Zipslack is Speakup enabled. In version 8.0, you had to remove a line that loaded a US keymap over the Speakup one, but this was removed in 8.1 specifically because it interfered with Speakup. All the Speakup kernels handle UMSDOS as well.
