The safe way of doing this (which I confess i don't use as much as I probably should for my own good) is rm -r -i (whatever directory you want to get rid of with all of its subdirectories. You will be asked about descending into the directory; you will be asked about each file; finally, you will BE askED if you want to delete the directory. tedious, yes. but unless your thinking is crystal clear at the moment and you are absolutely sure you want to delete the whole directory with subdirectories and all files involved, doing things the tedious way could end up saving you hours of work and tons of regret! believe me, I KNOW! From EXPERIENCE! by the way, there is a recover program and also an undelete (see the undelete howto) and one of these will sometimes allow you to recover deleted files or portions thereof. Sometimes! But I wouldn't count on it; much better to avoid the problem in the first place! Cheryl
