Hi, Well segmentation faults are just about always due to the programmer doing something like attempting to write past a block of allocated memory or failing to free the memory when they are done with it. The boundary between a user space program (your typical application) and the kernel is very well defined--the operating system prevents you from mucking around with kernel memory from your application. Whatever WINDBLOWS does in this area it doesn't do it very well! How else do you explain an application failing one time and working perfectly well the next time under WINDBLOWS. Yep, I think Linux is far superior! Jim Wantz On Tue, 23 Apr 2002, Gregory Nowak wrote: > There are 2 things worth pointing out here. One is that speakup is free of charge simply because Kirk chose not to make a profit out of it, for which he deserves thanks from thoes who can't really afford to spend money to keep their screen reader current (I'm still using wineyes 3.1 when I'm in the other OS). Second, even though we don't get that message which you mentioned below, we still get segmentation faults once in a while. Now, the good part is that the offending program doesn't take the whole system with it, unlike something else I could name but choose not to. > Greg > > > On Tue, Apr 23, 2002 at 03:47:09PM -0400, Alex Snow wrote: > > This is very interesting.
