Setting up mail under Linux.

Hi.

I've done this lots before, but my friend, who I'm trying to help get set
up, pointed out to me that there doesn't seem to be a Howto for getting
mail set up, I mean, ok he can use Fetchmail, he can use an mta like
Sendmail or, in this case, Exim, and he can use Pine etc, but each of the
docs for these packages only refer to the other parts of the chain, not ho
they fit together. Can anyone tell me hat happened to the ISP-Hookup
howto? As I recall, it went into detail as to how all the relevant
packages linked together with regard to mail, news etc and although I can
guide him through the processes, it would save us both a lot of telephone
costs if I could refer him to a document for this, which in any case would
be his preference, so that he can refer to it later.

Also, other howtos like the Access howto seem o be ridiculously (5 years)
out of date. I realise of course that these are maintained by volunteers,
but just wondering if anyone's considered compiling a list of inactive
hoto maintainers. This is not to denegrate these people in any way, but
most of them are now, for various reasons, uncontactable at the addresses
given in these documents, and I just thought it might help to reduce
confusion for newcomers to Linux.

Cheers.
