Hi Kerry and all.. Yeah, I had already checked for those kind of errors and there weren't any. the kernel-compiled sblive sounded like it was mono and it was murdering 'saytime" with lots of staticky noise. Alsa wasn't producing any sound, though my speakers came on and there would be interference in the speakers when I did totally non-sound-related things. I finally gave up and downloaded the OSS evaluation from www.opensound.com. Worked beautifully. I can even run two sound aps at once if I want with the same card, which is probably possible with alsa too but I had had it. I bought it. Am a very satisfied customer.
