Hi all, No, Speakup can not "steal" the software synthe because irst of all, the IBM Via Voice Outloud is *not* open source. Second, Speakup needs to speak from boot-up to shut-down, and the software synthe comes into the process too late for that. Ann P. -- Ann K.
