cd burners that work off the printer port

Yes a lot of them are just IDE burners in an external case and use the Paride
subsystem in the kernel. There are also other scsi over parallel burnes too.
Parport is low bandwidth thoguh so you only burn at 2x or 4x; it isn't really recommended for heavy use
since parport loads down the system a lot but sometimes it is the only way.
