If you're determined to use RH7.0, there are a few solutions. You can stick with 2.2.16-22 by using a replacement drivers/char/Makefile and drivers/char/main.c that Kirk hacked up for the purpose. A much better solution would be to download all the updates for 7.0 including the kernel from RedHat or a mirror and install them.
