  Hmm... would it help if you put something like

127.0.0.1 localhost. toccata.grg.afb.net.

  to /etc/hosts. After this resolver should be able to resolve that name
to localhost. (Check it with 'host', 'nslookup' will use only bind
daemon, not entire resolv library.)

  Did i remember corretcly you had problems with incoming mail. There
may be other solutions for this problem. One is define sendmail w-macron
to include toccata.grg.afb.net so it will consider it a local
domain. Not sure about sendmail 'cos i switched to qmail after two years
of desperate:>
