Hi: I've seen a number of bell replacement schemes on freshmeat.net in the console/sound section. Haven't messed with any of them though so I can't comment on their effectiveness or lack thereof. And you have already been told about the pine indexing stuff so I won't rehash that. Question though, why can't you use the precompiled linux binaries on your laptop? Aren't they statically linked?
