There _are_ audio editors for Linux. Chuck has written .wav manipulation utilities and there is ecasound. No it isn't soundforge but until we can access X ecasound will have to do for the moment. cdparanoia should search for your cdrom if you remove the /dev/cdrom symlink read the cdparanoia faq.
