Thanks to the folks who recommended nano as a replacement for pico. I got it and I love it! It is still not a word processor class application, mostly because it does not have print enhancements such as bold, underlining, etcetera. But at least it now contains a search/replace command and a "goto line" command, plus a whole bunch of other enhancements including regular expressions. If you liked pico you will love nano.
