problem after upgrading to slackware 8.0

Hi all,

I just upgraded to slackware 8.0. I cannot boot the system. It says "parallelizing fsck," and just hangs there. It's been hanging there with no sound of spinning hard drive for about 30 minutes now. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? I can get to a login prompt if I boot the system read-write to start with, but I know that this is not the way to solve the problem. The old package removal was a challenging experience all on its own which I won't complain about since I got through it ok in the end.
Thanks.
Greg
