Alsa-0.5.5 "card out of range"

First, did you build it with sequencer support? If not, go back and run
configure with the "--with-sequencer=yes" option. It does not build
sequencer support by default. Then recompile and reinstall. Now, load:
snd-seq
snd-seq-midi
snd-seq-oss
and see if that works.
