So it sounds like they're just tweaking the ID so it will be identified by their driver or megaraid driver instead of ours.  I'm assuming the new device ID is 0x54 instead which should be recognized and work fine like you mentioned.

I'm almost sure it's onboard controller (cannot check, machine is available 
remotely only).  It's Intel SR1550 server.

Anyway I found a option in normal BIOS to disable "intel swraid" and now it is 
detected nicely by mptsas without any new_id tweaks (becomes visible under 
pciid already known to mptsas).
