Sorry for late reply, was out of town.

Just checked Michael's proposed two-liner in comment #12, and am most happy to 
confirm it fixes this bug!

FWIW, I also investigated the related issue mentioned in comment #9, from the
HDDGuru forum, and can confirm that (with this same brand, Initio) of
USB-to-SATA connector, when you perform a disk capacity check via USB, it
returns exactly one sector less than when the enclosure is connected via eSATA.
 So their chipset/firmware clearly has a bug.
