$ as --version
GNU assembler version 2.27-43.base.el7
$ gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-39)

I think the problem are the "UL" suffixes ... IIRC they are only
supported by newer versions of the binutils.
