Thanks to those who responded on this. 2.6.24.7-rt17 boots without all the nasty messages, so I will proceed with this.

It hasn't got rid of the Jack xruns (I'm actually getting more now), but I think that this is probably one to bounce back to the Linux Audio Users list.
