There's nothing like "here's how an FPGA might trigger a hot plug
event." or "here's how your driver can trigger a hot plug event" or
anything like that.

To create such a patch, I would have to know how to do it, which, absent
the patch, I don't.

Believe me, if I knew enough to write the FAQ, not only would I do so, I
would probably write articles for LJ, the IEEE, and the PCI-SIG.
