This patch apparently does cover up the problem, but it fails on
so many levels:

  - incomprehensible summary
  - no changelog
  - no bugzilla pointer
  - unrelated junk in patch ("tmp")
  - completely unexplained change to generic resource.c
  - no indication that we understand the root cause
