socket() calls block

I have this one Fedora Core 2 server that is exhibiting some strange
behavior. After running for a few weeks all calls to socket() block.
I've strace'ed ping when this happens and see do see the blocking. I ha
have many of these servers and they run the same hardware and the same
software. There are many ppp interfaces that do come up and down often.

Kernel version is 2.6.5-1.358

I've suspected memory since we've had memory go bad in 2 of these
servers before but it is strange to me that after reboot the same
symptom occurs. The other instances of bad memory simply caused the
servers to lock.

Init 6 and reboot do not work obviously when this happens I have written
a program to simply execute the system call reboot with LINUX_CMD_REBOOT
so i can remotely get the box rebooted and working again.

Can anyone tell me what could be causing the blockage?

Thanks,
Chris
