soft interrupt problem

Hello everybody

i don't know if this is net-related, but i have problem with my linux router.
The router is routing a 100Mbit internet connection.
during normal operation the interrupts/second is 15000 (according to mpstat)
and if the router is not routing (ip_forward -> 0), the intr/s is 250
but after a few days something strange happens and the intr/s is 150000 (ten times more and the router reacts very slow)
and even if the ip_forward is set to 0 the intr/s is still 150000.

is there a possibility to debug what's happening?
Linux router2 2.6.14.3-grsec #1 PREEMPT Sat Feb 11 21:59:35 CET 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

thanks a lot
