Thanks very much for your suggestions. My only objection to your reply is that I get decent transfer rates (both ways) and few collisions when I use the same hardware
booted into windows XP. So i'd figured it was a driver issue............

Thanks for the suggestion D, but it unfortunately full duplex makes *no* difference :-(
Collisions are still massive.
