Hmm.. havend followed the changes, so it might be, that the messages
transported over netlink havent changed since 2.2. A quick glance tells me
some additions have been made (Decnet, session, v6, ..)

But anyway, you are quite right, netlink is the most stable and most
documented interface to routing/networking infos you can have on linux. 

And interesting to me, I just learned, that there is even a lib to access
it.  Not sure yet, if it is actually good to use, I will find out :)
