8808 PAUSE Frames in 802.3x Flow Control

Hi!

I was searching for 8808 Pause frames on google, when I saw a posting that
described how their tcpdump was capturing 8808 packets. I have been trying
to figure out if the hardware ever interrupts the CPU on receipt of PAUSE
frames. What layer implements 802.3x Flow Control anyways
(hardware/firmware/software)? How are these 8808 frames making all the way
to IP, or else how is tcpdump receiving them in its raw PF_PACKET socket?
