Hello... This is my first experience with gig ethernet, and I seem to be having speed problems with the linux tg3 driver... I am running redhat 7.3 with the 2.4.18-5smp kernel compiled by redhat. The 2 boxes I am testing with are both dual zeon 2.2 ghz boxes with 2 gb of ram and 40 gb hard drives... The cards are sold as 3comm cards but report as broadcom 5701 netxtreme controllers. I have included the dmesg lines from the driver loads. tg3.c:v0.98 (Mar 28, 2002) eth2: Tigon3 [partno(3C996B-T) rev 0105 PHY(5701)] (PCIX:100MHz:64-bit) 10/100/1000BaseT Ethernet 00:04:76:ee:fb:87 eth2: Link is up at 1000 Mbps, full duplex. eth2: Flow control is on for TX and on for RX. Now, for the problem... When I transfer small files between the 2 machines, I get high speeds... When, on the otherhand, I transfer large files (more than 250 mb) I get "dog" slow transfers... After searching the lists, I would seem that the cpu is getting to many interrupts and it maybe can't handle the packets for all the interrupts being generated etc... I would appreciate any suggestions about tuning for better performance, suggestions about other cards, or any other questions or advice any one has... btw: the speeds stay the same whether I use a cross cable or plug into my 3comm gig switch...
