e1000 driver for linux

Compaq appear to have an e1000 driver for linux which is covered by the
BSD licence.

If this is BSD compatible then does that mean the driver could end up in
the kernel proper?

I have tested the driver which works, so far without any problems.

The driver does not come with tech specs but the code seems fairly well
documented.
