your opinion about a hot standby cluster

Hi,

I have standard PC, built from commodity hardware as a firewall and mail
relay.
The think is, this firewall is getting very important within this
particular organization and I would like to make it a cluster.
If all was read only, I would go for linux-ha, but I also have the mail
relay (Qmail) to worry about.

So, I guess my question is: is there a clustering solution that does not
involve shared storage but instead has some kind of mirroring the
cluster nodes?

Also, I am looking for a Open Source solution because budget for this is
very low. I think something like LifeKeeper would be great, but I wanted
it to be free($$) also.

TIA

Regards,
Nuno
