IFF_BROADCAST

Hi,

What is the reason we don't allow ifconfig to turn off IFF_BROADCAST?

The man page for ifconfig says:

       [-]broadcast [addr]
If the address argument is given, set the protocol
broadcast address for this interface. Otherwise,
set (or clear) the IFF_BROADCAST flag for the
              interface.

If I don't want broadcasts to appear on a certain ethernet interface,
what is the best way of achieving this?
