Hi. I got this address from the MAINTAINERS file in the linux kernel tree. I apologize if this is sent to you in error. I'm unable to get networking (just lo, actually, as I have no use for ethernet at this time) working with a 2.4.5 kernel (either unpatched, or patched with patch-2.4.5-ac4 or -ac3). The machine totally freezes whenever it tries to bring lo up, either via an Sxxnetwork script in /etc/rc.d/init.d , or after booting up via ifconfig at the command line. I'm unable to ctrl-c out of it, and I can't even open up a second VT when this happens, which leads me to believe it's a kernel problem. I have no problems at all with the 2.4.1 kernel, however. My hardware is the following: AMDK6-2 400MHz DFI P5BV3+ motherboard with 256 MB RAM. Matrox G100 AGP video card One WD 8.4G IDE hard drive. External modem. My gcc version is egcs-2.91.66, and binutils is binutils-2.9.5.0.22-6. All other required programs satisfy the requirements in the kernel's Changes file. I have the relevant lines from my kernel .config file below. I can post the contents of my network setup files or module setup files if requested. Thanks for any help.
