telnet ipv6 address

Hello,

 I have a linux-2.4.1 (Redhat7.0) with IPv6 enabled.
I'm able to ping other IPv6 host, but can't telnet
 nor ftp.

 >ping6 x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x
successful, and packets are being sent

 >telnet x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x
 'unknown host'
 >ftp x:x:x:x:x:x:x:x
 'unknown host'

I can telnet using ipv4 address, but not ipv6 addr.
Has anyone encounter similar scenario and know of
any fix to this? Greatly appreciate any pointers.

 Thank you.
 Susan
