It's tricky (it is very intrusive on the processor; for a short moment
paging is disabled)
and AMD doesn't recommend it. There may be security issues. That said,
it works, and VMWARE uses it too.

16bit (non-protected) mode needs to be emulated on x86-64. DPMI needs
not. I guess that PowerBasic is not a DPMI application then.
The question is how important the speed is, as most 16-bit programs
were written at a time when CPUs were natively slower than the
emulation speed now!
