dosemu versions prior 1.2 were very unstable. It's just not good idea. 

I use msdos 6.0 with netware client from novell.com 
(http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tools/downloads/dw271e.zip) - try this 
one before trying sth else. Check also if increasing hogthreshold value in 
your config file helps.
