Compiling 1.3.3 question

I'm fixing to compile and install dosemu-1.3.3 to replace my working dosemu-1.2.2.

I'd like to do it correctly and have a very few questions.

I've read the README and INSTALL guide, removed ~/dosemu, ~/.dosemu and ~/.dosemurc by renaming them to .old. Also I've searched this mailing list for messages that might pertain back to February 2005.

The source is in ~/dl/dosemu-1.3.3 (my download directory) and I wish to install dosemu to ~/dosemu with freedos to go later into ~/dosemu/freedos. Just like I had it before.

The make seemed to go pretty well how do I ensure that 'make install'
puts everything in ~/dosemu.

Do I have to prefix something? What command?
