It might be mildly confusing, but there's a reason it's phrased like this. The paragraph this sentence starts is all about the case when the addressing information is available. So, naturally, the first sentence explains when this is the case.
If REG_NOSUB was set for the compilation of the pattern buffer, it is not possible to obtain match addressing information.
This sentence is correct, but it wouldn't work as a drop-in replacement for the original one.
