I’ve re-built my kernel with RMI4_SMB set and booted with psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1, which gave the device a new sysfs path and the Touchpad’s(!) name changed to “Synaptics TM3289-002”. I can’t say that the pointer’s speed changed, and an attempt to re-set the speed to 97 resulted in the same error (cf. dmesg).
